Duffield's Lane

Walking up to the summit on the ridge above the Wye Valley has such a different feel from the rest of Redbrook. Here the area has been cleared from woodland and used as agricultural land. It offers extensive bird-eye views of the village, valley and Forest of Dean.

Human activity here can be traced to the Bronze Age: a barbed and tanged flint arrowhead was found in the area. The lanes course across the landscape, both straight and winding have been defined by the natural topography and the medieval field systems.

The area was once part of the grange of the Abbey of Grace Dieu: although the Abbey was burned down by people of the Welsh Kingdoms in 1233.
