Highbury Terrace
Highbury Terrace was finished in 1946, just after the end of the Second World War. Built as affordable council houses, many of the 'original' Redbrookian families such as the Philpotts, Freemans and Morgans have and still reside here.
What are your favourite memories of Highbury Terrace?
Looking northwards towards Monmouth, this view of Redbrook is one of the most spectacular. Highbury Fields, maintained as unimproved grasslands, is around 90m above sea level.
The hills before you are made from hard sandstone conglomerates with quartz, known as puddingstone. The higher tops are limestone: the accumulation of shell, coral, and other organic debris compressed over millions of years.
The tributaries flowing into the Wye at Redbrook, not only create the grandeur scenery but provided power for the industry that was developed here, well before the industrial revolution.
