Upper Redbrook

Upper Redbrook

Upper Redbrook was also an important industrial landscape: the oldest site of the village is the King's Mill, first recorded in 1348 and remained in use until 1925 when sadly it burned down. You can still see the old walls as you walk the Offas Dyke. Look out for the old cast copper slag bricks.

The early 19th Century saw the opening of the brewery from which Brewery Terrace now gets its name. Here, spring water was piped through the river from Penallt. The Incline Bridge, built-in 1812 to carry trams running down behind Brewery Terrace to the tinplate works, quickly fell into disuse and is now a scheduled monument. The stream running down from the Swan Pools would often run red, and this is how the village acquired its name.
